Plants 2017

So this year we have...

Black Hungarian

Attractive, sturdy plant producing chillies similar to a jalapeno in shape but a shiny black colour which turns red when fully mature. Medium heat.

Carolina Reaper
Coming in at a mighty 2.2 million SHU’s this is not a chilli to be trifled with.  Keep indoors for maximum sunlight and warmth.  Will grow like a little tree. Amazing flavour if you can beat the heat.

Chocolate Habanero *NEW FOR 2017*
About 500,000 SHU's and very fruity.  Grows as a bush with a woody stem.

Fresno
2,500 – 10,000 SHU. Looks like a jalapeno but hotter. 5 – 8cm long.

Heatwave
Big good old fashioned cayenne chilli - use it in everything - easy to keep, lots of fruits which dry well.

Golden Cayenne
A long slim cayenne chilli, medium hot, which turns a beautiful gold colour when ripe.  Tall plant (up to 80cm).

Hungarian Hot Apple Pepper
My parent plant from 2014 – the chillies are small apple sized and shape gradually turning red – beautiful colours when maturing. Good heat and intense flavour.

Hungarian Yellow Wax
BIG hot tapered fruits which are canary yellow turning red when ripe.

Hot Orange *NEW FOR 2017*
Unusual as grows into a vine with lovely slightly citrus flavoured punch slim chillies.

Scotch Bonnet (Red)
Ball park 250,000 SHU's. Lovely fruity chilli.

Jamaican Red
Crumpled chilli - scotch bonnet family but boasting an apricot / citrus flavour with smoky undertones.  Same sort of heat but grows as an upright plant.

Rocotto Red *NEW FOR 2017*
Also known as the tree chilli, this is one of my favourites.  Produces lots of big, thick fleshed chillies.

Kashmiri
Indian chilli. Mild but full of flavour. Deep red colour traditionally used to colour tandoori dishes.

Lemon Drop
A vine-like plant originating in Peru.  Will need a bit of support.  Lovely heat (30,000-50,000) with a citrus background.

Naga Ghost
1,000,000 SHU and then some. Very distinctive depth of flavour. Treat with respect!

Numex Centennial
1000 – 5000 SHU. Developed by New Mexico State University for its 100 year anniversary.  Small plant with purple leaves and flowers.  Upright pods purple, yellow, orange and finally red.

Padron
Bushy plant with big chillies.  The original tapas chilli can be picked when green and cooked or left to ripen to red.  Lovely with olives.

Pequin
Tiny, brilliantly red Mexican chilli. 40,000 – 60,000 SHU. Complex fruity flavours and depth under the heat.

Ring of Fire
Hot cayenne 70,000 – 80,000 SHU.  Upright bush green chillies turning red when mature.

Satan’s Kiss
Large cherry chilli from Southern Italy.  Lots of hot and spicy chillies produced at the top of a dense little plant.  Good for stuffing.

Tabasco
Upright plant so good for the kitchen window.  Small yellow/green   chillies that will turn red. Good fresh heat.

Thai Demon
Little, red, very hot chillies which face upwards on a dwarf plant ideal for a windowsill.

Trinidad Scorpion Butch T
Former hottest chilli in the world – fantastic piquant flavour with a sting in the tail.  Comes in at about 1.5 million SHU’s.  Grows like a tree with a spreading canopy where the fruits will develop.
